Simulation Engineering - Serving Edmonton and the Surrounding Area
Our simulation services will show you how your new system will perform in different environments, so you get the peace of mind you need.
Always Accurate
We use only the latest technology to create our simulations. In addition, we are backed by over 100 years of experience performing high-end analysis most companies do not feel comfortable providing, mainly due to the extensive experience and expensive software required to accurately provide these simulations.
We provide the following:
Particle Simulation
We perform flow analysis containing particles so you can anticipate where solids will accumulate or where erosion is likely to occur. We can perform design optimizations to reduce solids accumulation or vessel erosion.
Heat Transfer
We can perform heat transfer for solids and/or fluids to predict the change in temperature due to the environment and operating conditions. This aids customers in optimizing their heat transfer requirements or aids in material selections.
Fluid Dynamics
we perform smooth and irregular fluid analysis to determine kinetic energy, pressure, velocity, and more. We also fully define the flow regime within the vessel. Understanding the flow behavior is critical in minimizing power required of pumps and reducing pressure required to drive flow.
BHA Modelling
PentaGeer has developed a BHA analysis technique enabling customers to understand how their tools will interact with the wellbore—the hole that’s drilled in order to recover oil, gas, water, or other in-ground resources. Our technique goes a step further by also displaying how the internals interact with the tool housings.
Drill Ahead Modelling
PentaGeer also developed an extension of the BHA model for predictive or post analysis as the system drills. Combined with the accurate BHA technology, the drill ahead model will predict how the system will create the wellbore. Customers often use the predictive mode to determine how design changes will perform.
Cumulative Damage Fatigue Model
PentaGeer uses several techniques to assess fatigue and potential failure modes. We’ve developed a model for customer with limited dataset where statistical methods are not reliable. With our technique, a reasonable life prediction can be obtained. The Drill-Ahead model is an example of a this, where customers can determine the life expectancy when drilling in specific conditions, or as a post analytical tool to understand failures.
Numerical Modelling
PentaGeer develops custom models for specific scenarios while meeting customer requirements. In one case, proprietary software was created to determine the critical speed of a drive shaft. In another case, a model was built of a custom dynamic sensor package.
Simulation Successes
We’ve helped our clients understand the efficiency and reliability of their products in real-world situations. Here’s some of our biggest wins:
1
One of our customers had issues with the bearing life in their product. PentaGeer developed a unique method for performing the system analysis. This lead to us reconfigurating their product with minimal changes and cost. The bearing life improved by 3X, saving money and time for our customer!
2
Another one of our customer came to us when their steering system was not performing as expected. Our BHA analysis enabled the customer to test variations of the design. Furthermore, the analysis revealed internal contact issues and bearing loads not previously quantified. The tool is performing well, and they are now acquiring more and more work with the product!

Thread Analyses – PentaGeer has designed countless custom threads. We built extensive FEA models to evaluate the stress and strain distribution within the thread in order to optimize the thread loading and improve the overall thread life.
Our Past Projects
- Dynamic Sensor Mechanism – we performed an analysis to determine how the sensor package moved within the tool during operation
- Failure Fatigue Analysis – we performed detailed fatigue modelling based on BHA analysis and field data to determine how the tool loaded underoperating and environmental conditions. We then determined the root cause and worked with our customer to resolve their issue.
- BHA analysis – many of our customers use PentaGeer’s BHA analysis technique to understand tool-wellbore interaction as well as external-internal component interaction. Over the past three years, we’ve analyzed hundreds of cases for dozens of systems.
- Drill Ahead models – more and more of our customers are realizing the advantage of seeing the loads develop in the tool as it moves through the well bore. The post analysis model is more widely used as part of a failure investigation. However, but the predictive model is being utilized more frequently to test design concepts.
- Thread Fatigue – PentaGeer has performed countless fatigue analyses on API threads and customer proprietary threads to determine life based on strain-life methods.
- Dynamic Simulation – A customer had performed a static analysis on one of their components, accounting for the peak transient loads. However, the component cracked in use. After reviewing their modelling technique, we discovered an incorrect assumption of their boundary condition and low account of the dynamic loading. The transient model showed the actual loading and highlighted exactly where the cracks where forming. This model formed a baseline to which any design changes could be evaluated. After a few iterations, we produced a design with 50% lower stress under the same operating conditions, effectively mitigating component crack initiation.
- Fatigue Model – A customer wanted their own cumulative fatigue calculator based on a live stream of their data. PentaGeer developed a model in Excel enabling the customer to feed their data into the calculator and get a % of life consumed every time the system was used. They specified a limit of 80% and would retire critical components when the life was reached.
